From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot in command privacy data omitted and privacy data omitted the owner of the air taxi agreed prior to the departure of this flight that the pilot privacy data omitted would draw fuel from the right tank until depleted, then switch to the left tank for the duration of the flight. When, during the course of the flight, and while cruising at 600' AGL, with five passengers onboard, the pilot privacy data omitted did deplete the fuel in the right tank, he switched to the left tank and turned on the electric fuelboost pump. The engine failed to restart and the pilot privacy data omitted was forced to make an emergency landing on the frozen surface of a nearby lake. Note: both the pilot privacy data omitted and privacy data omitted acknowledged that the right fuel tank had a leak and the purpose of running the tank dry was to enable the replacement of the tank during its annual inspection. That inspection was scheduled for the following day.
