The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) On January 13, 2008 the pilot and one passenger departed a private runway (9WA4) and flew to the dalles, airport (kdls) for fuel. After fueling the left and right hand fuel tanks they departed and flew sight seeing and photography flights for approximately 1.5 hours. The pilot stated that other pilots in the area were reporting carburetor icing conditions. They then flew to a neighbors private airstrip to visual the runway conditions, descending from 600 ft. AGL to 300-350 ft. AGL while maintaining the engine at 2300 RPM and an airspeed of 100 mph. The pilot stated he turned the carburetor heat on at that time. They flew north bound paralleling the runway to the left at approximatley 350 ft. AGL and initiated a left hand turn to the west. The pilot felt the aircraft slip to the right and stated he had no rudder control. The pilot went to full power with no response, pushed the nose over and leveled the aircraft for a forced landing. The pilot does not recall turning the carburetor heat off, although it was in the off position after the accident.
