(-23) Pilot statement: at about 5 miles out ATC descended him to 2000' AGL and assigned him a heading for a downwind to 31 right. Was switched to tower and tower kept him extremely close to the airport. As he passed the numbers on the approach end of the runway he was directed to begin his base at approximately 1500 AGL. He complied and cut downwind short and tower alerted him of traffic on about a four mile final behind him as well as a simultaneous approach on the parallel runway. With the shortened descent, he was hurried and had insufficient time to be comfortable landing.
