From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On April 21, 2008, the pilot privacy data omitted operated a velocity xlrg, N949WR, (an amateur-built aircraft), at the Tacoma Narrows Airport. During the initial operation, the pilot started with a touch and go on runway 17 where he felt a nose wheel shimmy. He then pulled up and decided to do airworks away from the pattern for about 30 minutes, then came back to the pattern, and landed. During landing, the pilot pulled the nose wheel off the ground to stop the shimmy and did it for a few times but persisted. Finally after applying the main brakes, the nose strut broke.
