From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft departed wiley post airport at approximately 10:40 am local time. It made a right departure turn toward the west, headed for the kingfisher VOR to perform testing of newly installed avionics equipment. After a few minutes of level flight at 2500 feet MSL, the pilot decided to climb to 3000 ft MSL. During that climb the engine began to make a subtle backfire noise. After approx 20 seconds it lost power completely. Subsequent attempts to re-start the engine were unsucessful. The aircraft landed in a wheat field.
