From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On June 24, 2008, pilot privacy data omitted and passenger privacy data omitted, departed lower talarik creek in his Piper PA-18, N3236P, in bound for Iliamna Airport. Unexpected headwinds of 18-26 mph were prevelant. On a two mile final into Iliamna, his engine lost power. Switching to his other fuel tank made no difference, at that tank was empty. An attempt to make a landing on a nearby road did not work and privacy data omitted touched down in a swamp, collapsing the right gear leg. Neither pilot or passenger were injured. A department of transportation truck picked them up and took them to Iliamna Airport.
