From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

Prefight and run-up were good and the aircraft was cleared for takeoff on runway 36. Aircraft stopped 100 feet short of the approach end of the runway when the pilot throttled back and the engine died. Shortly after, the pilot noticed flames on right side of aircraft and over the right wing. Pilot turned off the fuel pump, and closed the mixture control and fuel tank selector valve and started cranking the engine. When the fire did not appear to be going away he ordered everyone out of the aircraft and called "fire fire fire" on tower freqency and left the aircraft.
