(-23) On August 17, 2008, at the Butler county regional airport (hao), at approximately 10:00 am local time, an instrument rated pilot, was receiving commercial certificate dual training from a certified flight instructor (CFI) in a Mooney M20E aircraft. On their third departure from runway 29 at hao, after completing two short field takeoffs and landings, at approximately 700 to 800 feet, the instructor retarded the throttle to simulate engine failure. The student then initiated and successfully completed a 180 degree turn back to the runway but failed to extend the landing ger for landing. The airplane landed on the runway gear up and was moved to its hangar, at hao, to clear the runway. The incident was reported to the cvg FSDO (GL-05) on 8/17/08 via phone message. The cvg FSDO visually inspected the airplane on 8/19/08 and noted only minor damage.
