From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot made a hard landing on the nose landing gear (NLG). The aircraft landed on the main runway at Dillingham Airfield. Pilot stated he landed with half flaps set and reduced power. The aircraft flared normally and during touchdown it seemed to land light a main tire. Which he thought a main tire might have blown but what he felt was the NLG tire striking the runway. NLG strut assembly sheared off at the upper attachment point. NLG strut sheared off due to NLG tire stricking the runway surface. Finding: NLG tire struck the landing surface hard and caused the NLG strut to shear off, thereby losing control during landing.

As the FAA filed it
