From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The subject aircraft was on a VFR flight from (czg) endicott, NY, to (N94) carlisle, PA. During cruise at 1000 feet AGL, 20 miles west of (N94) the engine experienced a sudden significant power loss. Changing magnetos and adding carb heat did not improve performance. An emergency landing was attempted on the Pennsylvania turnpike due to terrain. During the landing flare the aircraft contacted the rear of a tractor trailer truck and touched down hard, coming to rest on the guard rail. The experienced pilot was aware of the low temperature (37F) and high humidity (66-72%) present, and was alert of possible icing conditions. A post accident engine inspection revealed normal engine operation. A FAA safety recommendation is being filed.
