From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) After the poor hard landing in melborne, in a right cross wind the right retractable gear on this Barracuda experimental (N289DH) collapsed causing minor damage to the right wing tip. They were able to lift the wing on the runway and lower the gear to obtain a normal down and locked indication on all three gears, so they could taxi the aircraft off the runway. Pilot stated link micro switches opened and turned on the hydraulic pump to lower the gear, but pump could not overcome the down ward force of the aircraft weight causing the right wing to slowly drop during the landing roll. This slow dropping of the wing is what allowed for just minor damage to this aircraft.
