From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On may 06, 2001, at approximately 2257Z, privacy data omitted, on final approach to 79J in N289DH, lowered the landing gear in preparation for landing. He observed the gear in transit lights noting that only the right main and nose gear were showing in trans, followed by green (down, locked) indications. He recycled the gear handle. This was followed with the previous indication. At this point, he proceeded to fly a left hand pattern (runway 29) around the field and attempted to reach personnel on the ground for a visual verification. Upon gathering attention from ground personnel, he inquired on the visual status of the gear. Being informed that only the right main and nose gear appeared down, he attempted to recycle the gear several more times with the same outcome. He then attempted to manually lower the gear using the method relayed to him by the previous owner of the aircraft. This resulted in the same outcome. He secured the manual system and attempted one last try at a recycle. Upon this attempt (with the same result as the previous attempts and running into his reserve fuel having circled a total of approx. 30MIN.), he proceeded to land. He touched down on the right main. He then cut mixture to off, followed by mags, while maintaining right aileron deflection in an effort to keep the left wing from ground contact as long as possible. After the left wing contacted the runway surface, the plane veered off the left side of the runway, coming to a stop. Approximately 20 yards left of the runway 29 shoulder, and 35-45 yards past the A2 taxiway sign. He then shut off the master battery/alternator switches and fuel and exited the plane.

As the FAA filed it

ON MAY 06, 2001, AT APPROXIMATELY 2257Z, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, ON FINAL APPROACH TO 79J IN N289DH, LOWERED THE LANDING GEAR IN PREPARATION FOR LANDING.
