From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot in command stated that the left engine of N8F failed during the descent into mcnary field, Oregon. He also indicated that he was using the auxiliary fuel tanks to supply both engines in this phase of flight. The pilot unsuccessfully attempted to restart the engine and diverted to Corvallis muni airport, Oregon. A subsequent inspection by a local mechanic determined that there was water in the auxiliary fuel tanks. The pilot in command stated that he filled all the aircraft's fuel tanks at the departure point, gowen field, Idaho, but that he did not sump the auxiliary tanks prior to departure.
