From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot stated that while on descent into klck from 6500 ft MSL to 1500 ft MSL the left hand leading edge of the canopy door started to flutter followed by the canopy door separating from the aircraft. The door made contact with the propelle causing separation and engine failure. The aircraft landed in a wheat field (N3946.680 W082.53.087) and sustained substantial damage upon touchdown. The left main gear collapsed inward and the left wing was damaged from approximately the midpoint outward.
