From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) During landing on runway 31 the pilot experienced a strong (approximately 25-30 knot) crosswind from the west during the landing flare. The pilot bounced the aircraft and came down hard on the nose landing ger. The impact broke the nose wheel from the aircraft and the nose gear collapsed. The aircraft slid approximately 220 ft and came to a stop in the grass off the right side of the runway. A small fire broke out in the right side of the engine compartment and burned through the cowling on the right side.
