From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot in command departed bremerton national airport (pwt) in his RV-8 airplane, N61FS, for Scappoose airport (spb) with intentions to purchase fuel. As the aircraft approached spb, the pilot in command received a pop-up IFR clearance for an approach into spb. The reported weather for spb was instrument metrological conditions. On a five mile final, N61FS inexplicably departed control flight and crashed into a heavily wooded area. The pilot in command was seriously injured, and the RV-8 was destroyed.
