From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft struck bird on approach to smf, runway 16R at 1840PST. Aircraft landed without further incident. There were no injuries. An examination of the aircraft by the FAA revealed a large bird struck the right wing leading edge at the landing light assy. The bird destroyed the light assembly and hit the aileron control cables. One cable tore a hole through a rib web cable feed through hole due to the impact. The bird hit the wing spar web and dented the web spar approximately 1/2 inch aft. One vertical stiffener sustained significant damage. The upper wing spar cap, an aluminum extruded section, was distorted in that it twisted forward when the web moved aft. It buckled the upper wing skin. The same thing happened to the lower wing spar. The lower wing skin was distorted a lesser extent. The NTSB is still investigating.
