From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot was interviewed in Talkeetna on 03/23/2010. He stated that he initiated the takeoff from the kahiltna glacier after lining up downhill with a 10 mile per hour downslope wind. The aircraft tracked straight for approxiamately 40 yards, then began an uncommanded veer to the left. The pilot applied full right rudder but was unable to correct the direction. The pilot aborted the takeoff, however, the right ski dug into the snow ruts, over-loading the landing gear leg, which broke at the upper axel attach bolt area. Damage was limited to the gear leg and right wing tip.
