From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was landing on runway 31 into a headwind, aircraft ballooned, he added power and touched down hard on the runway. Pilot heard loud noise on touchdown and was unable to control the aircraft on roll out. Aircraft ground looped off the right side of the runway, contacted a burm which bent the left wing from tip to about 4 ribs in, and bent the left horizontal stabilizer down. Investigation revealed that the left gear strut upper aft shock cord retainer lug failed at the time of the impact with the runway making the left strut remain extended after touchdown causing the uncontrollability.

As the FAA filed it
