From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 5-4-2010, the pilot and owner of the PA-28-200 was receiving instrument dual instruction from a CFII in preperation for a checkride scheduled the next day. The winds were gusty from the west. The pilot had completed his last instrument approach and was attempting to land on runway 31. The pilot crosswinds were too high to land on 31, so he rejected the landing. He stayed in the pattern and changed his runway to 19. In dealing with the gusty crosswinds, the pilot forgot to extend the landing gear. The automatic gear system was disabled for the training session and the gear warning horn sounded at the last seconds, as the pilot was carrying some power into the roundout. The flight originated and terminated at Yankton, SD (ykn) and this incident occurred about 1030 CDT.
