On 06/17/2010 at approximately 1816 hours zulu time, a Cessna 172 rg, N6525R, reported gear problems, and landed at the Chino Airport (kcno) gear up on runway 21. There were three persons on board, no injuries were reported. The commercially rated pilot also held a flight instructor certificate, was on a personal pleasure flight with two other flight instructors on board. The flight originated from the corona airport (kajo) reroute to el monte (kemt). The flight departed kajo at approximately 11:00 PST and the pilot flew east towards lake matthews and intended to get flight following to kemt. While over lake matthews the pilot heard a grinding noise coming from the rear of the aircraft. The pilot tested the flight controls, which test ok, and then attempted to extend the landing gear. A gear unsafe indication was noted by the pilot. The pilot confirmed the left main landing gear did not appear to be fully extended and in a "locked" position. The left main gear appeared to be "dangling". The pilot then contacted the flight school at corona and talked to the mechanic for the aircraft. The pilot returned to kajo and completed a "fly by" to confirm the gear unsafe condition. The pilot returned to lake matthews and attempted to follow the manufacturer's procedures for unsafe gear. The procedures were completed iaw the manufacturers procedures and the gear remained in an unsafe condition. The pilot contacted the flight school at corona and informed them that he intended to go to kcno and would land the aircraft at kcno. The pilot completed a two more "fly-by's" at kcno and the ATC tower operator confirmed the left main did not appear to be in a safe condition. The pilot stated he intended to land the airplane at kcno with the gear in the stowed or up position. Kcno ATC tower operator informed the pilot that runway 21 was closed but kcno ATC tower operations would open the runway for the emergency landing. The pilot received clearance to land on runway 21. The pilot made the approach and landed the aircraft on the runway centerline approximately 500 feet from the runway threshold. The aircraft slid on its belly for approximately 903 feet before it came to rest on runway 21 at taxiway "alpha". The pilot and the two passengers exited the aircraft without injury. The aircraft sustained minimal damage to the belly. During the landing the prop struck the runway (10 times) before it stopped turning, the propeller sustained non-repairable damage.
