What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Pilot operated aircraft in VMC conditions conducive to induction icing for approximately 1-1/2 hours. As pilot was preparing for final approach to Falmouth airpark, pilot selected carb heat. On selecting carb heat, the engine RPM fluctuated. Pilot immediately de-selected carb heat and the engine quit operating. Due to the aircraft's low altitude, pilot accomplished limited troubleshooting before preparing for an emergency landing. Options were a populated beach, trees, or water. Pilot elected to land approximately 30 yards offshore of south cape beach. A post-accident engine inspection did not show any failed engine components.
