From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was practicing holds at 4000 ft. over the grr VOR when he heard a loud bang from the engine area. He then noticed RPM indication had gone to zero. He informed grr tower of engine failure and landed in a field 5 miles south of the airport. The nose gear fork and wheel assembly broke off, and right main gear axle failed during the impact in the soft field. The left wing tip tank was also damaged during the landing sequence and a post crash fire destroyed the outboard wing section.
