From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Jason maloney departed republic airport in farmingdale, NY and flew westbound along the south shore line. Approximately 14 miles east of john f. kennedy airport (jfk), Mr. Maloney established radio contact with jfk tower and was approved to operate at or below 500 feet above the water in uncontrolled airspace. As Mr. Maloney got closer to jfk, he asked the controller if landing on the Beach is allowed. Mr. Maloney was advised that the beaches are public and can only be used in an emergency. Shortly after, Mr. Maloney informed the controller that his engine might be running rough and that he was going to make a precautionary landing. In Mr. Maloney's next transmission, he stated that he had a sick passenger and landed on the Beach without declaring an emergency. Since this incident, the engine has been inspected and found to be operating normally.
