From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

While enroute VFR, from roche harbor WA. To lake stevens, WA. In cruise flight at 2000MSL the aircraft engine made a loud noise, accompanied by extreme vibration and smoke. Pilot reduced power and the engine seized. Pilot elected to land at an airstrip on Lopez Island, WA. During emergency landing on the wet grass strip, the pilot, while attempting to avoid the roadway at the north end, elected to initiate a ground slide by making a sharp turn when the aircraft struck a fence post with the left wing, resulting in substantial damage to the wing and aircraft. Pilot exited the aircraft unharmed.
