What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The airman was conducting his third test flight in this aircraft. He reports being in the air for 20 minutes, at approximately 1,000 ft AGL, conducting turns. While in a right turn, the airman reported an uncommanded turn to the left. Application of the control stick failed to stop the turn. The airman encountered resistance in the control stick and felt something break and heard a sound described as cable striking metal. The airman reported that by reducing power and applying full right rudder, he was able to return the aircraft to nearly level flight. The aircraft continued to turn and was descending. After three turns, the airman decided to land in a soybean field. The airman reports touching down nearly level before the aircraft decelerated and turned over on its top.
