From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 5, 2011, at 2348 hours lax-fsdo received a fax from wpro describing a complaint from a citizen about a falling object that struck and damaged her parked personal vehicle. Complainant believes the object came from an aircraft in flight. The part was identified as a B757 main landing gear truck shield. Lax ATC identified nine aircraft that landed on the 24L and 24R runways during the time period identified. All aircraft were inspected, and delta tail number 6903, N757AT operating on flight 1196 ogg-lax, was found to have a missing shield. Investigation determined that delta aircraft 6903, a B757 - N757AT, lost the right main landing gear truck shield on approach with the gear down to lax on October 5, 2011 at approximately 2105P and the part struck a car breaking the rear window and damaging the trunk lid. FAA inspectors retrieved the part. Further investigation showed that the band clamps failed thus allowing the shield to depart the aircraft during approach with the gear extended.a SDR will be completed for the failed part. Dala made a request that their part be returned to them. The part was given to the dala cmo and returned as reqested.
