From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot reported he was making his third attempt at landing when a gust of wind lifted the right hand wing blowing him off the runway(35) to the left. The aircraft traveled across the runway clear zone and impacted several small trees linning a ditch that parrellels the runway 300 feet to the west. The aircraft came to rest in a vertical position supported by several willow trees. The pilot and passenger exited the aircraft. Neither was injured in the accident. The pilot had purchased the aircraft the day of the accident and had one landing in the aircraft prior to the accident. The aircraft had no noted mechanical problems. The aircraft's left wing leading edge was crushed two feet from the wing root and the skin was torn. The right wing leading edge was crushed near the wing tip and the skin was torn. The nose wheel strut was bent at 45 degrees. The right main was bent rearward and there was a tear in the skin above the strut. The cowling was crushed top and bottom, and had tears in the skin.
