From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N816AB, piloted by privacy data omitted, was conducting multiple takeoffs and landings on runway 10 at New Kent county airport (W96). After takeoff, during the climbout, in the turn to crosswind, the engine quit due to fuel depletion. The pilot elected to land at the airport since it was dark and available emergency landing locations were hard to verify. The aircraft landed short of runway 28, the nose wheel collapsed and the aircraft flipped upside down. The aircraft received substantial damage to the firewall, vertical stabilizer and canopy.
