What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On 12/25/11 at 1745Z, N6797V, a Mooney M20F, piloted by its owner, privacy data omitted (certificate number landed on runway 23 at mmu. The landing was made without the landing gear being deployed. privacy data omitted Reported that he had a spurious landing gear warning horn (that was a history item and previously addressed by an A&P mechanic) sound approximately 30 minutes out of mmu. He slowed and cycled the gear which successfully extinguished the horn. At 12-13 miles from mmu the landing gear warning horn began sounding again and in this instance he chose to live with the horn since he was close to landing at mmu. He never reported the landing gear warning to ATC or the tower. After landing at 1745:38Z he reported to the mmu controller that he "did a belly up, wheels up landing" and that someone would have to come get me. On 12/27/11 the aircraft was inspected while it was parked outside syrek mee repair station and on blocks. Inspection found that the landing gear handle was in the down position and the landing gear actuator circuit breaker was popped. Damage to the aircraft included prop and belly skin damage that was relatively minor. The minor damage however could make the aircraft economically unfeasible to repair. After the aircraft was inspected on the block it was placed on jacks. The landing gear doors were open but the gear did not deploy. The battery which had previously been disconnected by emergency services on 12/25/11 was reconnected. The gear did not deploy in the condition it was found in on the blocks. The landing gear actuator circuit breaker was reset. With the landing gear actuator circuit breaker reset the landing gear (all 3 gear) deployed and locked normally. When the gear was deployed the gear down green light illuminated normally and gear down mechanical alignment indicator between the seats aft of the console showed the gear down. The gear was cycled several times and worked normally including all gear indications. There was no evidence that the gear had been deployed prior to the aircraft touching down on landing. This was evidenced by the fact that neither of the main landing gear doors, tires or brake rotors showed any signs of damage or scuffing on their outboard edges which could have indicated that the gear had be partially deployed and subsequently collapsed. Initially privacy data omitted both verbally and in a written signed statement stated that he had put the landing gear handle down and lowered the flaps 4 miles from runway 23 at mmu. After repeated conversations with privacy data omitted he revealed that he was not certain of the events that would have led to him making a landing without the landing gear deployed.
As the FAA filed it
ON 12/25/11 AT 1745Z, N6797V, A MOONEY M20F, PILOTED BY ITS OWNER, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (CERTIFICATE NUMBER LANDED ON RUNWAY 23 AT MMU. THE LANDING WAS MADE WITHOUT THE LANDING GEAR BEING DEPLOYED. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ REPORTED THAT HE HAD A SPURIOUS LANDING GEAR WARNING HORN (THAT WAS A HISTORY ITEM AND PREVIOUSLY ADDRESSED BY AN A&P MECHANIC) SOUND APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES OUT OF MMU. INITIALLY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ BOTH VERBALLY AND IN A WRITTEN SIGNED STATEMENT STATED THAT HE HAD PUT THE LANDING GEAR HANDLE DOWN AND LOWERED THE FLAPS 4 MILES FROM RUNWAY 23 AT MMU. AFTER REPEATED CONVERSATIONS WITH ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ HE REVEALED THAT HE WAS NOT CERTAIN OF THE EVENTS THAT WOULD HAVE LED TO HIM MAKING A LANDING WITHOUT THE LANDING GEAR DEPLOYED.
