The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot involved was privacy data omitted, ATP certificate privacy data omitted. privacy data omitted Was the PIC of a Mooney M20F, tail # N6797V, sn# 700069, that had a partial landing gear collapse on runway 04 at kvih. The aircraft remained on the runway and ended up on its belly approximately ten feet to the left of centerline of the runway at approximately the 1000-foot touch-down-point markers. The wind at the time of the incident was reported on the 020054Z METAR to be 100@04KTS. The wind of 110@05KTS on the 130053Z METAR (kvih) was included in the FAA form 8020-9 aircraft accident/incident preliminary notice. The airport is uncontrolled, pilots have the option to land either runway 04 or 13 at the time. privacy data omitted In N6797V was the only aircraft in the pattern at the time of the incident. The aircraft (Mooney M20F: tail # N6797V, sn# 700069) is owned and operated by privacy data omitted.
privacy data omitted Was conducting a local currency/familiarization flight to update his recency of experience in Mooney M20F series aircraft prior to a eaa young eagles engagement the following weekend. He has approximately 48 hours in the M20F series make and model. He did have permission from the owner to conduct the flight at the time of the incident. At the time of the flight it was daylight visual meteorological conditions (VMC) and the flight was conducted within the local airport operations area. The automated weather at the time of the incident for kvih was 130053Z auto 11005KT 10SM clr 20/17 A2011 rmk A02. privacy data omitted Stated that he conducted a pre-flight and conducted a review of the POH owner?s manual. privacy data omitted Flew one circuit in the pattern and landed without issue to runway 04. On the second pattern privacy data omitted stated that after selecting the gear handle to the down position he had an audible indication of the gear moving but did not receive a green light on the instrument panel confirming that the gear was down and locked. He then attempted to recycle the gear but did not have any indication of gear movement. At that point, privacy data omitted decided to climb to altitude for further trouble shooting. He reviewed and executed the emergency gear extension procedure per the owner?s manual. He did see a gear down indication on the aircraft?s floorboard indicator, then he descended back to pattern altitude. As an additional precaution, privacy data omitted contacted the FBO for a visual indication of three extended landing gear. During a low pass, he was told that three were visible. On the next pass he set up for a landing on runway 04 and touched down passed the runway threshold but before the runway aiming point markings. privacy data omitted Stated that he was on approach speed of approximately 80 mph and touched down around 70 mph or less. He stated that he did not hear the gear warning horn and only heard the stall warning horn briefly as he touched down. Upon inspection of the runway it was found that entire sequence from touchdown to airplane stoppage on its belly was less than 1000 feet. The first indications of gear collapse were the initial propeller strikes and swirl marks on the pavement ending at final point of paint transfer from the nose gear door and belly of the aircraft. Total distance of collapse sequence as measured was 438 feet with the aircraft coming to rest just 10 feet left of centerline. The aircraft did not depart the runway. privacy data omitted Was not injured during the deceleration sequence as the gear collapsed.
The onboard manuals, aircraft registration, airworthiness certificate, and aircraft data plate were all were in order. Damage to the aircraft appeared to be the belly, nose gear doors, propeller, and right wing tip. The damage to all three-propeller blade tips (curled backwards) indicate the lack of power applied at the time of the gear collapse. Cause of the gear collapse cannot be determined without further inspection of the internal gear mechanism.
