From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

privacy data omitted Was on a CFI checkride with ops inspector mark fair from the dulles FSDO when they lost oil pressure and the engine seized. Inspector fair handled the radio and privacy data omitted concentrated on the flying. The aircraft was landed in a corn field and there was no damage to the aircraft and no injuries.1/17/2012 when the cowling was removed it was discovered that the oil sump plug on the left side of the engine was gone. Normally this plug is safetywired. There was no indication or trace of safetywire at the hole provided for it. This engine will be removed and sent to an engine overhaul shop in west Virginia. The time since the annual inspection is 4 months and the engine has had 30 hours put on it since the annual. I will amend this report once the issue concerning the plug and some other small issues found when the engine is further inspected with the person who signed for the annual inspection.2/16/12 I spoke with privacy data omitted about the annual . He did not take notice of the oil plug safety wire or if the plug had been removed. privacy data omitted Who is maintenance co-ordinator for this aircraft helped with the annual and stated the plug was not removed during the annual because they have an oil quick drain and there would be no reason to remove the plug. This incident is currently considered closed but may be amended as more information is known.

THE TIME SINCE THE ANNUAL INSPECTION IS 4 MONTHS AND THE ENGINE HAS HAD 30 HOURS PUT ON IT SINCE THE ANNUAL.
