From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Description: aircraft was on the second leg of a cross country flight. The accident happened between dnv and jwn along a fifteen mile final in day VMC. Aircraft was found to have significant amounts of fuel leaking from the tank vents that had to be removed by a local hazardous materials response team. The fuel selector was found in the "both" position. Causal factors: aircraft lost power and the pilot elected to attempt an off airfield landing in a large farm field. During the last portion of landing roll out, the nose landing gear departed the aircraft, causing the propeller spinner to plow into the earth for about ten yards. Finally, the aircraft slow rolled over the nose to end up inverted. Recommendations: nonecomments: the NTSB has a test engine run scheduled for the second week of February. A FAA inspector is scheduled to attend. This report will be amended if any additional information comes from the test.
