From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 5/11/2012, at approximately 1435PDT, Maule MX-7-235 aircraft, N114MK, sustained substantial damage due to a runway excursion during landing at Roche Harbor, WA (WA09). The sole occupant, the pilot-in-command (PIC), was not injured. The PIC was conducting a pleasure flight under 14CFR91, in VFR conditions from anacortes, WA (74S) to WA09. N114MK landed in a three point attitude with calm winds on runway 7. When the main landing gear contacted the runway, the airplane yawed to the left. The pilot attempted to correct with full right rudder and brake but was unable to regain directional control and departed the runway. N114MK came to rest in a drainage ditch parallel to the north side of the runway with significant damage to the propeller, engine cowling, both main landing gear, and airframe.
