From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot attempted to take off from runway 21 at ksbm. Southeast winds gusting to 18 KTS existed at the time of departure. Due to incorrect crosswind correction by the pilot, directional control was lost. When it became clear that he was going to depart the left side of the runway the pilot attempted to abort the takeoff. Tracks from the landing gear indicate the aircraft travelled approximately 1800' before coming to rest in a deep ditch off the left side of the runway. Minimal damage to the propeller iindicates that the engine was running at the time of impact, but at a low power setting. The pilot and three passengers did not suffer any injuries, and the aircraft suffered substatial damage.
