From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot was performing a maintenance test flight after the annual and the installation of a newly overhauled engine. The pilot performed 15 minutes of taxi testing with no problems noted. The pilot positioned the aircraft on runway 12 for take off and added power. During climbout, at mid-field, at an altitude of 150' AGL the engine made a loud pop, sent a large puff of white smoke out the tailpipe and quit. The pilot realized there was not much runway left in front of him and performed an 's' turn to bleed off altitude. The pilot maeuvered the aircraft to attempt touchdown on the remaining runway, however, landed in the grass to the north side of the runway abeam the numbers of 30. During touchdown the left MLG collapsed and one propeller blade contacted the ground. There was no other damage to the aircraft.
