From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot stated that after a preflight check/runup he decided to do some upper air and pattern work with the approval of his flt. Instructor. During climbout at apprx 3700FT prior to level cruise flt, he felt loss of engine power and noticed map @ 5 with engine RPM @ 2400. Unable to correct/change this indication with throttle or mixture controls. Pilot returned back to Noss Field attempting to land. Pilot states that due to excessive airspeed/altitude he was undecided whether or not to lower flaps. Pilot stated that at 3700FT and 4MI. Out gliding to Noss, he radioed, then entered into the traffic pattern for runway 31 with a 6-9KT. Tailwind. Landing mid-span of runway 31 and unable to stop, pilot ran of the end of runway and over an embankment placing the aircraft in its back.
