From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot reported that he had departed Ste Genevieve MO airport grass runway to the north. He turned to the north east and climbed to approximately 2000 feet MSL and performed 3-4 wingover then descended back to the airport and performed a low pass in front of family members. He was headed from north to south. At mid field he applied full power and initiated a climb. A few seconds into the climb the engine began to loose power. Pilot reported that he pushed the nose over to level at approximately 40- 50 feet AGL with airspeed indicating 55 mph. Pilot initiated a right descending turn to return to the runway. Insufficient altitude was available to complete the turn and the aircraft landed in a corn field. Aircraft dropped onto the main gear folding it under. Aircraft nosed over striking the prop and fracturing the front spar of lower left wing. Pilot exited aircraft and pulled it upright to stop fuel leakage. No reported injuries.
