From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot statement:

I had a solo cross country flight: Farmingdale / groton / bridgeport / Farmingdale.

The accident happened during final landing at Farmingdale around 11.30 am.

I was landing on runway 32, with wind of 10 KTS from 350 ( 5 KTS crosswind ).

Approach was good but I had a hard landing due to flaring to high on the runway.

Hard landing resulted in flat tyre on front gear and small propeller strike.

End.

Pilot?s statement is consistent with known facts, however aircraft damage was not limited to the propeller and tire. The firewall and floorboards were buckled, and the engine will have to be torn down due to the prop strike.
