From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Monday, December 24, 2012 at approximately 4:30PM eastern time, a 1996 experimental amateur-built Kitfox 4-1200, single engine, piston powered, high wing aircraft experienced an incident in which the aircraft became inverted after landing on an unimproved beach area of a small island in the saginaw bay, lake huron, near sebawaing, Michigan.

The pilot stated that he was practicing landings in this area and on the third landing, the right main landing gear became caught in the ice and caused the aircraft to flip nose-over and become inverted.

The pilot, being the sole occupant of the aircraft, was uninjured by the incident. However, he was treated for exposure after being recovered by search and rescue crews. The aircraft was removed by the owner and returned to the home base airport of bay city clements (3CM), in bay city, Michigan..

The aircraft sustained minor damage to the propeller, skin beneath the nose and the left main landing gear.
