From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft was dispatched from anc to the Talkeetna area on a search and rescue mission. The pilot went to the Talkeetna trooper station to pick up a state trooper for search and rescue assistance. The trooper helicopter departed Talkeetna enroute to larson lake area searching for the injured snowmobile operator. The rescue team located the individual and landed on a small lake to retrieve this individual for medical transport. The pilot reported to dispatch that he was enroute to the medical pick up location. The aircraft never arrived at the pick up location and there was no further radio contact from the trooper helicopter. The helicopter wreckage was located the next morning approximately 1.5 miles from where the medical patient was located. The pilot appears to have become disoriented in flight, struck some trees prior to a forceful contact with the ground. The helicopter received substantial damage prior to the post impact fire.
