From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot had been practicing instrument approaches at kfbl and kowa with a safety pilot in the right seat of the aircraft. While nearing kowa on one of the approaches a decision was made to land at kowa. The safety pilot took control of the aircraft while the pilot made the preparations for landing. While on base leg for runway 12 at kowa, the pilot took back the control of the aircraft. The pilot stated that they were on a high final for runway 12. The approach was continued and the aircraft touched down on the left side of runway 12. The pilot decided to initiate a go-around and applied full power. The aircraft made a turn to the left, crossed the taxiway and came to rest in the grass beyond the taxiway. The left wing of the aircraft sustained substantial damage. The nose gear strut and wheel assembly separated from the aircraft after it crossed the taxiway and the aircraft stopped in a nose down attitude with substantial damage to the engine mount and firewall area.
