From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Accident student pilot had been practicing water landings with CFI all day. After approximately 5 hours of flying, take offs and landings in accident aircraft, student and CFI landed at hii. CFI exited the aircraft and DPE boarded for the examination. Aircraft took off from hii and turned toward lake Havasu. Student pilot initiated landing procedure and landed the aircraft in the water with the landing gear extended. When the landing gear hit the water, the aircraft flipped over on its back. Aircraft windshield was destroyed and the aircraft immediately filled with water. Student and DPE were able to exit the aircraft with only minor injuries. The aircraft was towed to shore and placed on shore upright.
