From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft departed davenport, IA (dvn) enroute to Washington airport, Washington, Iowa (kawg). Due to deteriorating weather conditions the pilot in command diverted to Quad cities international airport, moline, Illinois (mli). While on approach 2 miles west of mli with a special visual flight rule (svfr) clearance into class "c" airspace, the engine was at 1800 RPM, upon pulling carburetor heat the engine lost power and would not run. The pilot reported to the tower the aircraft lost power and then landed in a field one mile short of the airport. Landing in the field the aircraft hit a slight ravine tearing the nose wheel from the aircraft, the aircraft bounced up and came to rest on the lower cowling and right wing. No injuries or fire occured.
