From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft N9602Q departed rst airport enroute to mnm. Climb to 9000 ft, 30-40 minutes later climb to 10000 no ice. 30 - 40 miles from mnm controller told the pilot to descend at pilot discretion, pilot ask if there was any ice reported, controller responded no one flew the route to report. In some surrounding areas there was some report 3 - 8 thousand. Pilot checked weather at mnm and it was now iml. Pilot told controller that he wanted to descend fast 1550-2000 ft/min and stop at 3000. Clearance was given and pilot turned on the prop alcohol when descending at 5000 ft the artificial horizon gyro was not stable, level off at 3000 ft and gyro started spinning in circles. At that point aircraft started to accumulate ice, pilot asked controller for 2500 ft to stop ice also asked controller for airport for no gyro approach (grb). Pilot asked to climb to get safer altitude, got to 5000 ft and started to get more ice at that point pilot declared emergency and ask to descend back to 2500 ft and for the closest airport. Controller vector pilot to kocq (Oconto airport). Pilot could not see airport at 1600 ft and went around two times. The third time a snow plow from the Oconto county started to plow runway 11, pilot saw the plow truck flashing lights and started descend no flaps full power gear down just before threshold. Landed on runway 11 hard and the aircraft skidded to the left into a snow bank. The three landing gears broke from the airplane, propellers hit the ground and bended. Aircraft finally stop about 50 yards from the intersection of runway 11 and the taxi way. 5 passenger on board 3 minor injuries, no post crash fire.
