From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On February 22, 2014, N540JT, an RV-8, was operated on a pleasure flight from shelbyville municipal airport (gez) to Marion Municipal Airport (mzz). The nearest weather as recorded from the kokomo municipal airport (okk) at 1335L was VFR with scattered clouds at 12000 feet, visibility 10 miles and winds 270 degrees at 9 mph. Runway 22 was the active runway at mzz and privacy data omitted pilot, elected to make a wheel landing. During the rollout, after the tail wheel was down, the aircraft weathervaned to the right and privacy data omitted made corrections to maintain directional control. The aircraft continued to track towards the runway edge and privacy data omitted decided to execute a go-around. During the go-around, the aircraft left the hard surface of the runway and entered snow that had been removed from the runway which was up to a foot in depth. The snow retarded the speed of the aircraft and ultimately caused the aircraft to plow over onto its back.

The canopy broke from impact with the ground andprivacy data omitted suffered superficial cuts on his hands and one ear. The aircraft sustained minor damage.
