What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
After five legs, 9.3 hours of flying on June 8, 2014, the pilot in command, surrounded by thunderstorms and low on fuel, landed at 96FL, a turf runway in the rain and ran off the end of runway 36. The pilot in command claims that the original headwind sheared into a tailwind in the landing flare making stopping on the runway area impossible. The aircraft came to rest in a partially wooded area.
The aircraft suffered minor damage. The pilot in command and his 14 year old grandson were not injured.
