From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N182PE was enroute to Virginia when the pilot noticed that that engine was rough. He contacted ATC notified them that he was having engine trouble. He notified them that he needed to proceed to the nearest airport. He turned and headed to Halifax regional, ixa. Approximately 5 miles southwest of the airport, the engine quit. He notified ATC he was not going to make the airport. He proceeded to land in a soft field. Upon impact, the gear dug in; the nose gear sheared off then followed by the right main. The aircraft flipped over and came to rest about 70 feet from first impact. The pilot was not wearing a shoulder harness and sustained a head injury. At engine tear down it was noted that all main bearings spun and starved the cylinder of oil.
