What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot reported that as he was traveling from grayson county, Texas, (kgyi) to daytona beach, Florida (kdab). He decided to stop in mobile, Alabama (kmob) for food and fuel. The pilot reported that he checked the weather and learned there were a ceiling at 2500 ft. MSL for kmob. As he was descending to kmob from 9500 ft MSL, he saw a black cloud, so to maintain visual flight rules , he increased the rate of descent and decreased the throttle in order to maintain airspeed outside of the yellow caution area. The pilot reported that at approximately 2500 ft MSL, he attempted to level the aircraft and increase throttle. When he attempted to increase throttle, there was no response from the engine but the propeller was continuing to spin. He increased the mixture and again attempted to increase throttle but still received no response from the engine. He stated the throttle felt very loose. He advised air traffic control of his problem and selected nearest on the GPS. He did not see an airfield so he declared an emergency. As he was trying to land in a hay field the aircraft landing gear hit the top of a tree, breaking the tail section of the aircraft off in the tree. The aircraft impact the ground approximately 30 feet on the opposite side of oilwell road causing substantial damage to the aircraft to include breaking the engine away from the airframe. It was reported the pilot and one passenger has serious injured and one passenger was treated at a hospital and released.
As the FAA filed it
THE PILOT REPORTED THAT AS HE WAS TRAVELING FROM GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS, (KGYI) TO DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA (KDAB).
