From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 25, 2014 at 1400Z, the PIC of N536CB departed rwy 27 with (1) passenger and during rotation, the pilot reported to ATC the LH canopy door had become ajar and requested clearance to return to sfb. The PIC was unable to close the canopy door during the approach, ultimately causing the door assembly to fail and separate from the aircraft. The PIC was cleared and landed the aircraft on rwy 27, taxied to the southwest ramp with no reported injuries. The door was never recovered.
